The Mark Twain cigar is a brand of cigars that was created in the early 1900s.
The cigar was named after named after the great American writer Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who is better known by his pen name, Mark Twain.
As most cigar smokers know, Twain was a world-famous cigar aficionado.

It was created by the Cuban cigar company, La Aurora. The company is located in Santiago de Cuba.
Cuban and Dominican Tobaccos
The Mark Twain cigar is made with a blend of tobaccos from Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
The wrapper is a Connecticut shade-grown tobacco leaf and the binder is a Dominican Republic tobacco leaf.
The filler is a blend of tobaccos from Cuba and the Dominican Republic, making the cigars medium bodied with flavors of cedar, leather, nuts, and spice.
The cigars are available in four sizes:
- Churchill (7 inches by 48 ring gauge)
- Robusto (5.5 inches by 50 ring gauge)
- Toro (6inches by 50 ring gauge)

Pre-Light Mark Twain Cigar Tasting Notes
At first view, the cigar appears unremarkable.
Its Connecticut color wrapper is a smooth medium brown with a tinge of greasy sheen, and the cigar is both thick and lengthy.
It’s a little spongy, and there’s some slight veining.
Mark Twain’s pre-light aroma is a deep, hazelnut fragrance with a leather undertone.
A cold draw exposes a robust flavor of nuts and leather, with a pleasing note of vanilla.
The First Third
Mark Twain’s initial few draws provide little to no resistance.
However, these draws produce plenty of resinous smoke that is dense, but not too much.
The finish is rather brief, but that’s to be anticipated from a less expensive cigar.
The first third of the cigar is dominated by the aromas of nuts and leather, with a pronounced taste of wood. The woody flavor is a little bitter, but still rather enjoyable.
Overall, the first third of the cigar is good, though it burns rapidly. The woody tastes continue into the cigar’s middle third.

Mid-Third
The woody notes from the first third of the cigar continue into the first third of the Mark Twain.
The flavors of the cigar develop wonderfully during the first third, and the short finish lengthens nicely.
As you progress through the middle of the cigar, the woody flavor becomes less bitter. The nutty flavor is also present throughout the midsection of the cigar.
The body of the cigar shrinks slightly in the middle, but it remains on the large side.
The nutty and woody notes persisted through the final third of the stick as it transitioned to the final third stick.
Final Third
The cigar’s final third is comparable to the middle third.
The overwhelming woody and nutty tastes from the first third are equally prominent in the cigar’s last third.
The woody and nutty tastes continue to soften and smooth out. With about an inch of the stick remaining, the final third becomes soft.
This is hardly surprising given the other indications that the cigar is not packed as securely as it could be.
It’s also worth noting that the cigar’s smoke turned fairly hot, with about an inch remaining on the stick.
Around the same time, the cigar went a little squishy.
